  • Nick Mulvey

Nick Mulvey studied music and art in Havana, Cuba, and was an active member in the Mercury Award-nominated band Portico Quartet before coming to the fore with solo material in 2012.

While Mulvey's studies in Ethnomusicology certainly submerged the performer in different styles of music (in particular, West and Central African styles), it was this – his departure from the band and his return to the guitar – that cemented him as a solo star.

Mulvey's sound intertwines influences of artists such as Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell and Tom Waits with a variation on African styles, including guitarist Kawele. The result is sweet melodic rock.

He has previously supported the likes of Willy Mason, Lianne La Havas and Laura Marling, and he featured on the BBC's Sound of 2014 long list.

His debut full-length album, First Mind, arrived in 2014. A record of opposing shades, it featured an exquisitely gifted natural guitarist doing extraordinary things across a very moreish collection of songs. The album was peerless and translated to the stage alongside the fine collection of talented players who formed his band.

In early September 2017, Mulvey released his second album, Wake Up Now, and he’ll support it with a UK tour in October.
